The Chair of Proteomics and Bioanalytics at the Technical University of Munich invites applications for a
Scientist – Clinical Proteomics
as part of the ERC Advanced Grant funded research project “Exploiting the Tumor Proteome Activity Status for Future Cancer Therapies” (TOPAS).
Candidates should have a strong background or interest in mass-spectrometry-based proteomics and its application in biomedical research. The successful candidate will become a key member of a strong interdisciplinary team of scientists and technical staff focused on the development and application of proteomic approaches to cellular signaling, chemical biology and biomarker discovery in the areas of cancer research and personalized medicine. In particular, this position will strengthen our ongoing collaborations with the TUM University hospital in Munich that aim to improve the lives of cancer patients by integrating molecular profiling information at the level of the proteome and phospho-proteome into therapeutic decision making. In light of this background, the most important aspects of the job description are:
- Optimization and automation of robust and high-quality clinical proteomic workflows.
- Careful sample preparation and LC-MS/MS analysis of patient-derived tumor samples.
- Data analysis to support molecular tumor boards in therapeutic decision making.
- Research on selected cancer types to identify disease mechanisms and biomarkers.
Requirements: Candidates must hold an MSc or PhD degree in a life science discipline. Good theoretical knowledge of and practical skills in protein biochemistry and bioanalytical methods are essential. Applicants should also possess a solid understanding of modern aspects of molecular and cellular biology as well as medicine. Prior experience with proteomic or genomic technologies are a plus. Additional desirable skills include hands-on operation of liquid chromatography-mass-spectrometry, laboratory workflow automation and analysis and visualization of large data sets using “R”. We are looking for a self-motivated and broadly interested individual with high potential and a strong sense of responsibility. Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple scientific and infrastructure projects are essential. Good inter-cultural and interpersonal communication skills as well as presenting complex data to scientists and clinicians in English are also important.
Our offer: You will join an interdisciplinary team of biochemists, biotechnologists, cell biologists, bioinformaticians, chemists and clinicians that uses the latest proteomic approaches and equipment to help fighting cancer. The Technical University is one of the best academic institutions in Germany and offers a stimulating work environment and excellent future perspectives. The position is initially available for three years and the salary follows the TVL/E13 scale.
Application: Applications should include a motivational statement (max. one page), a curriculum vitae summarizing qualifications and experience, copies of degrees/university transcripts, names and the email addresses of at least one referee. Applications should be sent as a single PDF to Prof. Dr. Bernhard Küster (email@example.com). The position is available immediately and applications will be considered until the position is filled.
