Postdoc in Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics m/f/d

The Research Unit Protein Science at Helmholtz Zentrum München is looking for a Postdoc in Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics.

The Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU; – a research institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers – is a leading center in health research with a focus on Environmental Health. The Research Unit Protein Science, headed by Dr. Stefanie Hauck, is a leading lab for proteome analytics focusing on state-of-the-art liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) driving molecular understanding of diseases.

The Research Unit Protein Science is looking for a
Postdoc in Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics.

The CLINSPECT-M project, funded by the BMBF, brings together an outstanding team of Munich-based experts in proteomics, medicine and informatics to perform cutting edge research on diseases of the nervous system. The goal is to drive technological innovations, and address important societal challenges. Focusing on brain patho-physiology, our overarching research goals are to demonstrate that mass spectrometry in systems medicine is technically and logistically feasible, generates novel insights into disease biology, uncovers biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment response and provides clinical translation opportunities aiding clinical decision making for individual patients.
Your role in the project will be to drive mass spectrometry innovations by integrating the best methods on all levels of the LC-MS/MS process and by benchmarking the participating labs (round robin challenges). You will develop MS-based assays for specific clinically relevant marker proteins, including absolute quantification strategies, the assessment of intra- and interassay variability, stability and selectivity of reagents, and the determination of limits of detection/quantification. This will be achieved in close cooperation with all CLINSPECT-M partners and you will actively participate in the scientific symposia of the consortium.

Your profile:

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a comparable qualification
  • Very good knowledge of protein biochemical methods
  • Experience with LC-MS/MS (direct hands on machines!)
  • Experience with the quantitative analysis of proteomics data
  • Strong background in (bio) informatics and statistics
  • Excellent team spirit with a talent to integrate in a multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Fluent English and scientific writing skills

Remuneration and benefits are in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service (EG 13 TV EntgO Bund). The position is (initially) limited to three years.
As a holder of the Total E-Quality Award, we promote equality of opportunity. In order to increase the proportion of women in management positions, we would be pleased to receive corresponding applications. Qualified applicants with physical disabilities will be given preference.
