Scientist Mass Spectrometry

The University Hospital Cologne and the Medical Faculty are ofering the position of a

Scientist (f/m/x) for mass spectrometry of small molecules

Working at the University Hospital Cologne and the Medical Faculty means helping to shape the future – the future of medicine, of patients and, of course, your own future. You benefit from 59 clinics and institutes as well as numerous other departments and facilities and more than 10,000 jobs. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne and the University Hospital Cologne assume important social tasks in research, teaching and patient care. A close network with many university and non-university partners guarantees an internationally successful science and the excellent education of our students.

The “Cluster of Excellence on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases” (CECAD) is seeking applications for a full-time

Scientist (f/m/x), field of mass spectrometry of “small molecules”
initially limited until August 1, 2024 within the scope of a parental leave replacement.

The mission of CECAD is to unravel common molecular mechanisms underlying life span regulation and aging-associated diseases in a network between scientists from the University and University Hospital of Cologne and the Max Planck Institutes for the Biology of Aging and for Metabolic Research. The Lipidomics/Metabolomics Facility is one of five CECAD technology platforms and offers a comprehensive service in the field of mass spectrometric analysis of small metabolites to all scientists from the life science campus at the University of Cologne. For joining the team of the CECAD Lipidomics/Metabolomics Facility we are looking for you.

Further information is available on the internet:

Your tasks:

  • Planning and execution of mass spectrometric analyses of small metabolites (lipids, polar/ionic metabolites) in biological samples (lipidomics, metabolomics)
  • Establishment of new mass spectrometric methods to expand the service spectrum of the CECAD Lipidomics/Metabolomics Facility
  • Evaluation of mass spectrometric raw data
  • Maintenance of the chromatography systems and mass spectrometers of the Facility, including minor repair work

Your profile:

  • Diploma, master or doctorate degree (PhD) in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology or a closely related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in chromatographic separation techniques coupled with modern mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the analysis of small molecules
  • Profound knowledge in mass spectrometric data analysis
  • Practical knowledge in the maintenance of chromatography systems and mass spectrometers
  • Preferably experience in the isolation and analysis of metabolites (lipids, polar metabolites) from biological samples
  • High service orientation and good organisational skills
  • Ability to work proactively and independently as well as in a team

Our offer:

  • A varied work with in an international, multidisciplinary and innovative environment
  • A diverse and fair working environment
  • A broad spectrum of state-of-the-art equipment and the excellent infrastructure of the technology platforms of the CECAD cluster of excellence
  • You benefit from numerous university offers such as opportunities for further education and health promotion and the participation in the Job Ticket
  • Your salary will be based on TV-L.

Applications from female candidates are expressly welcome and will be given priority in the event of equal suitability, competence and professional performance. People with disabilities are welcome to apply and will be treated preferentially in the event of equal suitability and qualification. The position is suitable for staffing with part-time employees.
