The DGMS Focus Group (“Fachgruppe”) Core Facilities was launched at the 49th German Mass Spectrometry Meeting in Hamburg, Feb 28th, 2016. It currently has 42 members. Its spokesman is Dr. Christof Lenz (University Medical Center Göttingen and Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry Göttingen, christof.lenz@mpibpc.mpg.de). Deputy spokespersons are Dr. Sabine Metzger (University of Cologne, s.metzger@uni-koeln.de) and Prof. Dr. Axel Imhof (Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, imhof@lmu.de).
Within the Focus Group we discuss the organizational impact of centralized service labs (“Core Facilities”) on the usage of mass spectrometry in academia. This is not restricted to a certain area of application. Topics include:
- Sources and balance of Core facility funding (institutional vs 3rd party funding, user fees)
- Staffing concepts for sustainable operation of Core Facilities
- Requirements, means and mechanisms for technical and methodical development
- Evaluation of Core Facility performance by e.g. round robin studies
In case you are interested in participating in the Focus Group, please contact one of the spokespersons.
