Mattauch-Herzog Award for Mass Spectrometry 2027 of the German Mass Spectrometry Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Massenspektrometrie, DGMS)

The German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS) awards the Mattauch Herzog Award, which is endowed by the company Thermo Fisher Scientific. The prize is under the patronage of the DGMS and since 1988 is usually awarded annually to early-career scientists for outstanding achievements in the field of mass spectrometric sciences. It is one of the most prestigious and highest-endowed awards in the analytical sciences.
The Mattauch Herzog Award is named after Josef Mattauch and Richard Herzog, who in 1934 introduced a novel type of mass spectrometer whose ion optics became internationally known as the Mattauch Herzog system. The prize honors significant work and major advances, particularly in the areas of instrumental and theoretical developments, as well as new applications and methods in organic/biochemical analysis and elemental and isotopic analysis.
The prize money amounts to €12,500. In exceptional cases, it may be divided between two recipients. The award decision is made by an independent jury. The prize will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the DGMS.
Applications are open to individuals who have conducted their work in a European country. The application and submitted work may be in either German or English. The award is not tied to a formal academic qualification but is intended to recognize early-career researchers. Therefore, applicants should generally not have reached the age of forty in the year of application. The DGMS and the sponsoring company strongly encourage qualified female scientists to apply.
